Description

Never played guitar? Want to know how to play guitar? Do you love music? If you never touched a guitar, been playing guitar forever, or want to be a rock star this course is a great place to start your music education or continue building your skills. No prior music experience is needed. Learn the fundamentals of music and the basic skills necessary to play a wide variety of music styles including simple and full-strum chords, strumming patterns, playing/singing simple melodies, parts of the guitar, and ensemble skills, and explore the careers of significant musicians in varied genres. Student guides, Carlos and Summer, guide students through each step of this journey toward becoming skilled guitarists and musicians.

Segment One

· Three basic types of guitars and their parts

· How to care for your guitar

· Universal three basic positions of holding the guitar

· Identify strings by number and letter name

· Tune your guitar

· Techniques of basic strumming and plucking

· Read and interpret guitar tablature and fretboard diagrams

· Improvisation

· Intellectual property

· Chord progressions

· Symbols within music notation

· Recognize rhythm values through listening

· Transfer a melody from standard music notation to tablature

 

Segment Two

· Rest values

· Standard music notation

· Read and play melodies using standard music notation

· Melody and harmony

· Play with other musicians

· Strategies for listening and learning new works

· Tuning, tempo, balance

No prior music experience is necessary, but you must have your own six-string guitar and a way to record and submit a video performance to your instructor.A metronome tool is used within the course, http://www.metronomeonline.com/Materials that students need to complete the work within the course that are not provided-Required:•Device of choice to record video with audio.•A playable six-string guitar. It can be a classical guitar, a steel-string guitar, or an electric guitar. If you use an electric guitar, you will also need an amplifier with a power rating of at least 5 watts, and a cable to connect the guitar and amplifier.•A guitar pick•An armless straight-backed chairOptional:•Foot rest•Guitar stand•Guitar strap•A tuner•Metronome
